Using breadmaker correctly – a step by step guide with recipes

Operating a breadmaker is not difficult – after all, the device already does most things by itself. Nevertheless, of course, you still have to perform some steps yourself, and you should do it properly. In our article, we give a brief instruction along with some classic recipes.

Dimensions in the breadmaker

First of all, it is important to find out what size bread can be baked in your machine. You will have to adjust the recipes to this later (if you do not use ready-made baking mixes).

As a rule, the standard sizes are

  • 500 g
  • 750 g
  • 1.000 g
  • 1.250 g

In large breadmakers, the bread size can also be reduced. In this case, you must select the appropriate bread quantity via the settings menu.

As a rule of thumb: for a small loaf (500 g and 750 g)you need two cups of flour, for a large loaf (1,000 – 1,250 g) three cups.

Baking bread in the breadmaker – step by step

  • Ingredients according to the recipe above
  • Water

1. prepare breadmaker

Remove the pan from the machine. Insert the dough hooks. Weigh and combine all ingredients.

2. pour in “wet” ingredients

All liquids must be warm (at least 27 °C!) otherwise the yeast cannot work properly. First add water and all other wet ingredients to the mold.

3. add dry ingredients

Add all dry ingredients (salt, sugar) to the mold, finally add the flour.

4. add yeast

Make a small indentation in the dough and add the yeast. Replace the mold and close the lid.

5. let the bread bake

Make the necessary settings on the machine: Bread quantity, type of flour (according to operating instructions), quick program if desired, browning degree for the crust. Press the Start button and let the machine work.

When the kneading process is finished, the dough hooks can be removed. To do this, brush your hands with oil or dust them with flour so that the dough does not stick to your hands. Some appliances have retractable dough hooks. It is then not necessary to remove the dough hooks.

6. remove bread

Using an oven mitt, grasp the handle and remove the pan. Remove the bread from the pan using a plastic spatula and allow to cool.

Tips & Tricks

Also, always pay close attention to the manufacturer’s instruction manual to see if there are any special things you need to follow. Bread makers can be different and some devices you have to operate a little differently in individual points. Above all, familiarize yourself with the settings of the device beforehand.
