If you are going to do some serious cleaning or a lot of it, you might prefer a more expensive version. I found this adequate for my needs though, and, as a woman on my own, I did not want a heavy machine. This fits the bill for me.

Had a bit of a faff connecting the pressure hose as the instructions aren’t great, but figured it out eventually after getting soaked a couple up of times first.
However, to wash a car effectively you really need a brush (which doesn’t come with this). I went round 3 times, 2 lots of detergent used and still car is dirty. Pressure needs to be higher, but you have to have it on the mix setting which is quite weak and relatively ineffective. It would be quicker to wash the car with a sponge and bucket. I got lots of fresh though even if my car isn’t clean! It works well on patios. Feel like I’ve wasted money though, as bought for car cleaning mainly. Not sure about investing in brush, reviews seem mixed.

I got this Kärcher 1.676-102.0 K 3 Power Control High Pressure Washer, 1600 W to replace my old machine. It’s easy to connect the hoses and jets and power lead. It was also compatible with my other attachments used with my old machine and once all set up, it cleaned my patio exceptionally well. I am well pleased with it.

Very difficult to assemble and the leaflet badly laid out and instruction images unclear as to how to put together – had to ask someone to help me. Not that light – would have preferred a longer lead to avoid the use of an extension lead that could possibly get wet which would be dangerous. Good price and was voted best in Gardeners World magazine,.

I hold my hand up and say that I am not very clued up when it comes to assembling anything. I toook everything out of the box and laid it all out and then got to work on what seemed to go where and mostly it was obvious. The biggest headache I had was that I didn’t realise that there is no attachment for the water supply. YOU NEED TO HAVE A SEPARATE HOSE – which obviously goes from a tap (ideally outside) to the big hole near the centre of the machine. I even watched 2 ‘how to’ videos and they didn’t show this obviously crucial step. So I had to clean very dirty patio tiles and tried the variable attachment first which worked quite well. You have to adjust the turning head end to change the water pressure (on my model). It doesn’t say where the ‘mix’ option is in order to spray detergent so that was found by trial and error. Note that the little clear suction tube needs to be pulled down through the cap so that it sits at the bottom of the detergent tank. Then I tried the smaller, harder attachment which rotates the water spray in little circles and was more effective. However, you should wear wellie boots and waterproof trousers when using it.

Cleaned the deposits from an adjoining Oak tree from our stone patio effortlessly. Delighted, stonework looks like it did when first laid.

I’ve been fortunate to receive quite a few of Karcher’s latest models here for review, from the basic K2 to the powerful K5 & after thus far test driving 3 models, I’m becoming more and more convinced that the cheaper, basic Karcher models offer far better value when it comes to price vs performance and in this sense the K3 is no exception. The headline figures for the K3 are –

      1600 watt air-cooled universal motor.
      Flow rate 380 litres/hour. (K2 360)
      Rated bar – 120. (K2 110)
Suitable for medium to heavy tasks.
      7m hose. (K2 4m)
      5m mains cable.
      Wheeled for ease of use.
      Maximum temperature of 40°C

Basically for each model you get approx. an extra 10 bar of pressure, 20 litres of flow and between 100-200w of power. What this means in practice is basically that ALL will do the job, but the more powerful motors, bar and flow rates will do the job easier and quicker. It really is that simple. I liked the K2 (small, light and compact) and deemed it ideal for everything but cars. It will clean a car, but the shorter hose and cable lengths make this somewhat a fidgety task and it took me almost twice as long to shine the Merc using the K2 as it did with the K5. The K3 is a step up (literally) in most areas of the K2’s spec. Again, the pressure isn’t quite that of the K4 or K5 but at the strongest setting it is most certainly powerful enough to clean a car. You also get that all important extra metre or two of hose and a longer power cable – both of which make life that little bit easier when cleaning! I’ve deducted half a star for the fixed pressure settings (which is definitely a gimmick) as I actually preferred the older manual “twist” lance option which allows you to really fine tune the pressure. I also wasn’t blown away by the detergent tank which uses gravity to feed the detergent as this proved a bit hit and miss in practice. If there was one cheap add on I’d recommend for any Karcher it would be the snow foam attachment which makes soaping the car or bike an effortless doddle. I’ve also deducted a further half star for the lack of a hose wind (see my K4 review for the fun this causes) and resting base for the mains cable. Somehow, Karcher deem both of these to be “Premium” features, whereas I’d say that they are essentials for any 5 star winner. The latter should not put you off though, for when you bear in mind the price, for under £150 you are getting a machine that will clean bikes, patios etc with ease and can also handle cars very well indeed. It’s also compact, lightweight (4.4Kg), easy to store and with the built-in handle and wheels, easy to move. Ignoring the omission of cable storage and the gimmicky power control wand, this is a great option for anyone needing a reliable, quite discrete yet effective all round pressure cleaner.

Got this for car washing. The hose supplied is flimsy and keeps coiling up. Decided to get new 15m hose and it’s really good. Ended up buying various accessories for car cleaning (car detailing) from Amazon and eBay eg snow foam lance, spray head attachment for the lance and hose coupler which allows you to extend the hose even further by making use of the pressure hose supplied. Need to make your own inlet water supply hose.
